Septic
system permits: Foothills Soil Consulting offers
assistance with obtaining septic system permits for individual
homes/lots, apartment and condominium complexes, large developments,
and commercial developments. We offer assistance with preparing
permit application paperwork, gather soil information to speed
the permit process, and conduct required soil work for large (greater
than 1500-3000 gallons per day) septic systems. We also assist
with obtaining permits for lots that have been turned down by
the local health department.
Preliminary soil investigations:
Are you thinking of buying a tract of land but want to be sure
that the proposed development will be economically feasible? Foothills
Soil Consulting can look at the tract before you purchase it to
assess its suitability for your intended use, and to make sure
that you will be able to obtain the septic permits you need to
achieve your vision for this tract of land. Our investigation
focuses on the characteristics of the soils on the siteāif other
professionals are needed to assess different aspects of the site,
Foothills Soil Consulting can help locate the appropriate assistance
for evaluating the site.
Soil mapping and development assistance:
On many sites available space for septic systems or other forms
of onsite wastewater is the main limitation on development. Foothills
Soil Consulting can create a soil map that will guide planning
to allow you to maximize use of the site and avoid costly mistakes.
These maps can be used to make informed decisions about septic
systems, infrastructure placement, and development density before
grading is started. A soil map allows you to avoid costly after-the-fact
work to obtain septic system permits for lots with limited or
no options for septic systems. They can also be used to guide
more aesthetic, environmentally friendly developments.
Water reuse and surface application
of wastewater: As water supplies become more limited,
water reuse can be an option to allow the use of wastewater to
safely water amenities and public spaces in the proposed development.
In addition, for lots where a septic system permit cannot be obtained,
water reuse and surface application of treated wastewater are
options to consider that might allow use of lots that cannot obtain
a septic system permit.
Documentation of soils and a nutrient management plan are required
to obtain a permit for water reuse or surface application of wastewater
from the Division of Water Quality. Foothills Soil Consulting
can assist with this part of the permit process and with locating
sites for wastewater application.
